The Platform I Wish Existed When I First Came to Nusa Lembongan

Pool cocktails - Nusa Lembongan - Island Pulse

Nine years ago, I came to Nusa Lembongan for a short island escape.

Somehow, I never really left, and have returned many times and currently now living here.

Over the years, friends, tourists, backpackers, digital nomads, and random people on I met along the way and on social media kept asking me the same things:

“Where should we stay?”

“Which snorkelling company is actually good?”

“Where’s the best sunset?”

“Do we need cash?”

“Is Ceningan worth it?”

Eventually, I realised I was sending the same voice notes, pins, screenshots, and recommendations almost every week.

So I decided to build Island Pulse.

Why Most Island Guides Felt Incomplete

Most travel guides make the islands feel like a checklist.

But anyone who has spent real time in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan knows island life changes constantly. Weather changes plans. Tides change beaches. Some cafés are perfect in the morning and completely different by sunset. The best snorkelling spots depend on the conditions that day, not what a blog post from three years ago says.

After nearly a decade of coming here, I noticed most online guides felt either outdated, overly polished, or written by people who barely spent enough time on the islands to understand them properly.

A lot of the best experiences here are not found through perfectly curated travel articles. They come from local recommendations, timing, conversations, and learning the rhythm of the islands themselves.

That was the gap I wanted Island Pulse to fill.

What Island Pulse Actually Is

Island Pulse is not just another travel directory.

It is a living island guide built from years of actually spending time in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. A place to collect the recommendations, tips, hidden spots, and local knowledge I found myself constantly sharing with friends, visitors, and strangers online.

The goal is simple.

Make it easier for people to experience the best parts of the islands without spending hours searching through outdated blogs, random TikToks, or generic Bali travel lists.

From snorkelling operators and hidden beaches to cafés, villas, sunset spots, transport tips, and local favourites, Island Pulse is designed to help people experience the islands in a more relaxed and genuine way.

Not everything here is about finding the “most famous” place. Sometimes it is simply about finding the right place at the right time.

The Questions I Get Asked The Most

After nine years around the islands, the same questions come up constantly.

“How many days should I stay?”

Most people underestimate how easy it is to slow down here. A quick day trip never really feels like enough. Three to five days is usually where the islands start making sense.

“Do I need a scooter?”

Honestly, yes. The islands are small, but having a scooter completely changes the experience. You end up finding hidden beaches, quiet roads, tiny cafés, and random sunset spots you would never plan for otherwise.

“Is Ceningan worth visiting?”

Absolutely. Ceningan has a completely different energy to Lembongan. Smaller, quieter, and slower in the best possible way.

“What’s the best snorkelling company?”

This is probably the question I get asked the most, and one of the biggest reasons Island Pulse exists in the first place. The best operators often depend on the conditions, the season, and what kind of experience people are actually looking for.

“Do I need cash?”

Most places take card now, but island life still runs smoother with cash in your pocket, especially at smaller local warungs and beach spots.

Why I’m Building This Now

The islands have changed a lot over the years.

More cafés, more villas, more beach clubs, more tourists, and a lot more noise online. At the same time, finding genuinely useful information somehow became harder.

Everything started feeling scattered across Instagram stories, outdated blogs, TikTok clips, Google reviews, and random group chats.

I wanted to create one clean platform where people could actually discover the islands properly. Somewhere that feels less like a generic booking website and more like recommendations from someone already here living it.

Island Pulse is also about showcasing the local businesses, experiences, and hidden corners of the islands that deserve more attention without turning everything into overhyped tourist content.

The goal is not perfection.

It is helping people experience the islands better.

What’s Coming Next

Island Pulse is still growing, but this is only the beginning.

Over time, the site will continue expanding with:

  • honest food recommendations
  • hidden beaches and local gems
  • snorkelling comparisons
  • sunset spot guides
  • villa and stay roundups
  • transport tips
  • island updates and seasonal conditions
  • new cafés and experiences worth knowing about

The islands are always changing, and Island Pulse will grow alongside them.

Because after nearly a decade of answering the same island questions over and over again, it finally felt time to build one place for it all
